fortune cookieI got this fortune while visiting Columbus, Ohio right before Christmas. “You will stumble into the Happiness of your Life.”

That was a comforting fortune for most, I almost got duped by it – I’ve been duped by it before. It’s a nice sentiment – but it implies that you don’t have to put much effort towards life. Poof! Happiness!

It doesn’t work that way. Luck isn’t easy. I like the definition of luck as being prepared for the situation – taking action from a moment of opportunity.

I’m shooting for more luck and happiness this year. My tools to achieve these two items will be the trio of Risk, Habit and Prep.

Risk – Go out of comfort zones more often

Habit – Cut old routines and create new disciplines

Prep – Increase the variety so more opportunities become available
