A traditionalist, Bill courted Marlene for 4 years before they got married. Every Friday, Marlene would pick Bill up from his office and they would walk to Murberry Park and have a picnic and feed the ducks during Bill’s lunch hour.
Bill was the agriculture bureau chief for the city newspaper until he got disgusted and quit due to the factory farms coming in and driving the traditional farmers out. Bill went on to write for Mother Jones and GOOD magazines. They had a long and happy marriage.
